Rocket Status: No attacks today.
Today I made real progress on an issue we've been working for a long time. There's a simple process when someone orders a piece of equipment that they need to fill out an order request. On this order request is a multitude of signatures and a real pain to take around and get signed. The way they were doing it here was to have them do the initial order request (normal), when the goods would arrive from Kabul, they would have them reaccomplish the order request so it would make their job easier. There was no concern for the poor customer who has already run this gauntlet. Today, the ANA Colonel agreed to have his guys make copies of the original if they need additional copies. This sounds simple, but the discussion has gone on for months to get it to where it is.
Our interpreters received their green badges today, which means they can go around the base unescorted. They were like a 16 year old when they get their driver's license...they were giddy with excitement. It took a lot of effort to get them to the green badge and one of our guys didn't pass and remains as escort only. It isn't that he's a bad guy, but he's been to some shady establishments and they are very strict (glad they are).
Here are some pics of Afghanistan in the 1960s...

Great steps today! I'm hoping the other person, who did not pass, will learn from the mistakes so he can acquire his green badge. Not only will it be good for him but for all involved.
I am assuming the carpet is made the same way today as it was then. Such tedious hand work. A true work of art.
Thanks for taking the time to post. Stay safe!
